The Gabriel Project is very simple in its design and implementation within the parish. One person in the parish is all that is needed to begin this ministry. A person with the desire to help a new mom through her pregnancy and the ability to work well with others is needed. The individual willing to step forward in this role is called the Gabriel Project Coordinator.

Together with the PDL GP coordinator, the parish priest will be called upon for his support. Upon his understanding and approval of the ministry, a Gabriel Project Sunday will be scheduled, where a three minute presentation to the parish will be held after all the Sunday Masses and sign-ups will take place for those interested in learning more about this ministry.

An information/training class will be held (usually) on Fridays 6:30-8:30PM and Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm. The training class includes: communication skills, a profile of a woman with an unplanned pregnancy, Natural Family Planning, adoption awareness, legal issues, etc. An attractive sign is placed outside the church, witnessing the parish family’s commitment to the unborn and the pregnant woman in crisis.

Recent Gabriel News

We wish Deidra (pictured here with Karolina) a Happy Birthday this week. Deidra admits her life will never be the same, ever since she was turned around from the fear she was frozen with 9 months ago with an unplanned pregnancy. Whenever Deidra walks in the door at PDL, it causes everyone to smile. She is such a beautiful mom, nursing and caring for Karolina. She is also actively involved with our Natural Family Planning classes at the Center.

Milinda was directed to PDL through the concern of sidewalk councilors in October ’08. The Gabriel Project (with the contributions to the Mom’s Fund) helped Milinda and pre-born baby Elestial throughout the pregnancy; with gas, maintaining a phone, maternity clothes, food, and things for baby. Milinda kept an eye on Elestial during that time by having an ultrasound occasionally. Our moms enjoy seeing into the window to the womb during their pregnancy, it seems to help them connect with baby.

The Gabriel Project at the Shrine of St. Bernadette’s Albuquerque co-coordinator Sandy is pictured here with twins Steven and Allyia born on Divine Mercy Sunday 2009. The twins’ mom works full time and Gabriel has helped her with miscellaneous items for the babies and help with rent when she was out of work after the babies were born. Mom and babies are doing very well.
