Parents' Educational Program

The Moms Ministry at Project Defending Life offers a parenting program for our new moms every Wednesday evening. We encourage all pregnant moms to attend the classes. The class is divided into two parts; first we teach ‘nurturing care’ to educate our moms in the dynamics, discipline, joys and challenges of parenting and healthy relationships. The second part of the class is directed by a deacon who informs our moms of the truths of daily living in our world today incorporating information and knowledge on virtues, the commandments and beatitudes, parables, daily living of the gospel, baptism and sacraments . The program has certainly grown over the past 4 years. We now have on average 23 parents attending the class.

We have a parenting program for Spanish speakers on Wednesday nights at St. Anne’s church. For information on this South Valley Spanish program, please call Emily at 350 0576. God has indeed blessed us with new volunteers which enables us to support new educational opportunities for families in our community.

The theme of our recent class was “What are the traits, qualities, and/or characteristics of a healthy family”? For this activity, the parents were divided into small groups. Each group had to compile a list of desirable traits that one should have in a healthy family. Trust, compassion, self-control, healthy role models, cooperation, sacrifice and courage were some of the traits that the groups listed. Parents, as leaders, definitely have the opportunity to provide stability and consistency for their children in a healthy family environment.

• be trained to do ultrasounds for the parents
• pray for the parents and their children
• be a guest speaker for the parenting class
• take care of the children
• plan and organize the summer outing and/or the Christmas party
• office worker
• intakes
• sidewalk counselor
• home visits
• teach GED classes for the parents
• assist with the parenting program in Rio Rancho
