The seven leading causes of death in the United States are heart disease, all forms of cancer, stroke, chronic lower respiratory diseases, accidents, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. Put together these take approximately 1,159,000 lives each year. People fight for, raise money and awareness for these diseases … but abortion, which is the number one cause of death in the U.S. (approximately 1,300,000 abortions performed in the United States per year), gets none of these benefits. Our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI states, “This direct destruction of an innocent human life can never be justified…”

There will be a Men’s March for Life during the weekend of Father’s Day for the men of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. This is a Men’s March because our society needs to see that men are not afraid to stand up for those who are the most defenseless among us and that we are proud to be fathers. Other family members are asked to go to their local parish and pray for Men’s March for Life marching for the safety of the unborn.

The event will begin on Friday, June 18th at 8:00 p.m. with a candlelight vigil at Our Lady of Fatima, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, which will be followed by Eucharist Adoration throughout the night. At 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 19th will begin with a departure Mass and “march” west on Lomas to the abortion mill of Dr. Curtis Boyd. At the abortion mill there will be prayers for the end to abortion and then conclude our walk.

All the men are encouraged to stand up and voice that enough is enough when it comes to abortion in this country and around the world. Our late Holy Father, Pope John Paul II calls us to action when he states “We will stand up every time that human life is threatened. When the sacredness of life before birth is attacked, we will stand up and proclaim that no one ever has the authority to destroy unborn life.”

Under the patronage of the Holy Innocents, St. Gerard, and Our Lady of Guadalupe
