2000 Hail Mary Devotion

A devotion to Our Lady of Manaoag

The origin of the Patroness of our Lady of Manaoag is surrounded with mystery. Tradition has it that this little town in the Philippines was born from the call of the Virgin Mary, thus the term, taoag which means to call was used to name the town. It is said that a young man heard the voice of a Lady while walking home one day. As he looked around he saw a radiant Lady with a Rosary and a small Child on her left side standing on a cloud veiling a treetop. He told people about the apparition. Soon a church was built and a town quickly grew around it. They called the town Manaoag.

The Virgin protected the people of Manaoag even though it took a miracle to do so. In the early times the mountain tribes used to burn Christian villages. When they set Manaoag on fire the people ran inside the church as a last refuge. Even though lighted arrows were shot into the thatched roof of the church, none of the flames enkindled it. Another incident happened in 1697 on an Easter Sunday, when the Madonna again saved the destruction of the church.
2000 Hail Marys Devotion

A pious practice arose early in the 1700’s. Whoever prayed 2000 Hail Marys on the 25th of March would obtain from the Blessed Virgin Mary, at least three graces. This information was given to a 15 year old boy in 1933 in the City of Barcelona. He put our Lady to the test and asked for these three graces: to become a Salesian, to be a priest, and to be a missionary. He received all three petitions.
Our Lady of Manaoag Still Powerful

There have been many great miracles regarding this devotion throughout the years to this very day.

The 9/11 disaster in New York City in 2001 prompted a family to pray for the victims of the tragedy and world peace. They devoted a whole day of praying the 2000 Hail Marys and invoked the powerful intercession of the miraculous Our Lady of Manaoag. The wonders that they experienced motivated the group to schedule the 2000 Hail Marys in their homes every month.

You can read about these and other miracles of Our Lady of Manaoag at the 2000 Hail Mary web site.
