The Blessing of a Child in the Womb
The Blessing of a Child in the Womb
“May almighty God, who has created new life now bless the child in your womb. The Lord has brought you the joy of motherhood: May he bless you with a safe and healthy pregnancy. You thank the Lord today for the gift of your child: May he bring you and your child one day to share in the unending joys of heaven.”
The U.S. Bishops have approved this beautiful new blessing in their Fall general assembly last week. Bishop Arthur Serratelli of Paterson, N.J., chairman of the bishops’ Committee on Divine Worship, introduced the prayer.
He said the blessing, which had been approved both by his committee and by the Committee on Pro-Life Activities, “was prepared to support the parents awaiting the birth of their child, to encourage in the parish, prayers for and recognition of the precious gift of the child in the womb, and to foster respect for human life within society.”

Join us in praying a SPECIAL ELECTION NOVENA and ask everyone you know to pray and fast for the national elections.
Bishop Arthur Serratelli of Patterson, New Jersey, has joined at least 50 other American Bishops who have recently spoken forcefully to instruct their flocks about the grave moral choices we are faced with as Catholic voters this election. Bishop Seratelli writes in his recent letter,“A Politician’s Promise: No Right to Life! No Freedom!”:
“For thirty-five years, Americans have been wrestling with The Supreme Court’s decision legalizing abortion in Roe v. Wade. Most Americans now favor some kind of a ban on abortion. Most who allow abortion would do so only in very rare cases. In fact,in January, 2008, the Guttmacher Institute published its 14th census of abortion providers in the country. Its statistics showed that the abortion rate continues to decline. Abortions have reached their lowest level since 1974. There is truly a deep sensitivity to life in the soul of America…
“The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA),would mortally wound this sensitivity. In effect, it would dismantle the freedom of choice to do all that is necessary to respect and protect human life at its most vulnerable stage. FOCA goes far beyond guaranteeing the right to an abortion throughout the nine months of pregnancy. It arrogantly prohibits any law or policy interfering with that right. While advocates trumpet this law as the triumph of the freedom of choice,
they hide the dark reality that the law would actually inhibit choice…
“Along with 108 members of Congress, the present [D]emocratic [Party] candidate for President continues his strong support for the Freedom of Choice Act. In a speech before the Planned Parenthood Action Fund last year, he made the promise that the first thing he would do as President would be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act. What a choice for a new President!” Full Text of Bishop Serratelli’s letter

Protest At Planned Parenthood
Large group gather in front of Planned Parenthood last Saturday, Oct. 18th. They came from San Clemente in Los Lunas, Destiny Christian Church and UNM. Some put red tape across their mouth as a sign of their “silent protest” against abortion. It was a wonderful sight to see 30 to 40 people praying their hearts out for the cessation of abortion and God was listening to every word.
Christ Showed Us the Way
When the Son of God came on earth to redeem the human race, He was born as a member of a family. God chose sinless Mary to bear and mother Him, and pure, just Joseph to head the Holy Family. Mary and Joseph were both poor—Joseph supported them by the daily toil of his hands, a poor carpenter without any lucrative trade—the day of the birth of Mary’s Child was most inconvenient, due to Caesar’s census which necessitated an arduous journey in her late pregnancy—then too Jesus’ patrimony was seemingly uncertain to anyone who knew of Mary’s conception and there was the fact that He was born under conditions below even poor hygienic standards—in a stable and laid in a manger. These were all negative factors relative to Jesus’ birth—He Who was omnipotent God. Yet on the first Christmas every difficulty was surmounted that human ingenuity could devise and Emmanuel (God with us) was born.
God has invalidated every reason an abortionist could ever have. Not to mention that only God has jurisdiction over human life.
He is its Creator—created for His purpose.
Its inception is His. Its completion is His.
Planned Parenthood Lies Yet Again
Below is an example of how Planned Parenthood gets more donations for their abortion mills. Ask Planned Parenthood what happened to this made up woman. What was her name? Where was she from? What hospital was she seen at? What was the police report number? All these are fair questions had there been an, “injured woman lying semi-conscious on the sidewalk” to begin with.
After reading below feel free to contact Planned Parenthood of New Mexico and ask them nicely to stop lying. And don’t forget to let them know we will be praying for them to stop the killing.

It's Just A Sign
On September 16th, a sidewalk counselor, Frances Gomez, was praying outside of the Planned Parenthood at 619 San Mateo NE in Albuquerque. She held a sign saying, “Abortion, the Ultimate Child Abuse” with a picture of a baby’s face on it. A young woman, perhaps 20 years old, was on her way into the abortion mill when she stopped to look at Frances’ sign. Frances prayed for her and for her unborn child, holding the sign higher as the young woman paused for several seconds still staring.

September 15th News Update
A Wonderful Day for God’s Precious Infants
Saturday, Sept. 13 was the second anniversary of the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants Mass and procession. Over 100 people came to intercede for the infants in the wombs that are in danger of being aborted. Everyone spiritually adopted one or more of these endangered babies. For nine months they will light their candle and say a little prayer for the babies they adopted and named. I took two kits which contained the candle tide with a ribbon corresponding with the sex of the baby and was pleasantly surprised to find that one of the kits was for twins, so I had three babies. I named them Jason, Jessica and Joshua. I’m sure everyone was as happy as I was when they opened their kits. And you know what? I believe that God will save all the babies that now have spiritually adopted parents praying for them. If you would like to spiritually adope an unborn infant in danger of being aborted call Yolanda at220-8891.

Our new Mass schedule is:
Monday & Tuesday at 12:10 PM.

A Person Is A Person No Matter How Small
Pro-life message from the new movie “Horton Hears a Who” reminds us how to end abortion.
Good Bye, Holy Father
Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI departed yesterday to return to Rome. Did we not feel like orphans again after spending almost a week with our spiritual father on American soil? His last words:
May God Bless America
“For all the people of America, and indeed throughout the world, I pray that the future will bring increased fraternity and solidarity, a growth in mutual respect, and a renewed trust and confidence in God, our heavenly Father. With these words, I take my leave, I ask you to remember me in your prayers, and at the same time I assure you of my friendship and affection in the Lord. May God bless America.”
Welcome, Pope Benedict XVI and Mary Elizabeth
Pope Benedict XVI arrived in America this week and has been warmly received by President Bush at the White House, the Catholic University of America, and at the United Nations. Our Holy Father also met with the American episcopacy to counsel and advise our bishops concerning the challenges facing the Church in America.
The Joy of Laughter
Isaac Brings Laughter and Joy
Today was a great day! A young man named Oscar, who was about 20 years old, stopped by to talk to Philip Leahy and thanked him because eight years ago both he and his wife were at the abortion center thinking about aborting their child. “I did not want my wife to listen to the sidewalk counselor but she did and we decided to keep the baby.” They named their son Isaac, which means laughter, and Oscar said he did indeed bring joy and laughter. The family has subsequently been blessed with another son.
Three Babies Saved… Twins Spared
We experienced other joyous occasions the first week of April. Three babies were saved, assisted by volunteers associated with Project Defending Life. Phil Leahy witnessed to one Mom who left Planned Parenthood to pray at the PDL chapel and subsequently met with Ruth Lowe for counseling. Twins were spared when an African-American couple decided to keep their babies after counseling and viewing an ultrasound of their very active youngsters in the womb… thanks to the initiative and persistence of Elisa Martinez and Mark Hall. Mark Hall flew in from Cocoa Beach, Florida, with a mobile ultrasound machine to help and our good Lord blessed his efforts abundantly. Mark directs a very active pro-life group in Florida called the Messengers of Hope.

Thank You for Making 40 Days A Success
Nancy G. sent us this note after the Jericho Walk: “Just wanted to thank you for all your work in making the Jericho Walk a huge success. We WILL tumble those walls down in God’s time!! I really felt strongly that the people in the P.P. buildings were becoming concerned and somewhat intimidated by our numbers, by the looks on some of their faces. God is Good.”
Hundreds Surround Planned Parenthood Abortion Facility at Good Friday Prayer Service
On Good Friday, a steady stream of peaceful prayerful supplicants arrived from around the Archdiocese to join the climax of the Albuquerque 40 Days for Life prayer crusade. Hundreds arrived for the Jericho Walk prayer service, processed and encircled Planned Parenthood starting at 8:00 am and up to four hundred were counted by 10:00 a.m., surrounding the abortion facility from front to back. Their weapons – the rosary, litanies, hymns and signs proclaiming the timeless truth that all abortion is an abomination to the Author and Creator of all life! Young pregnant mothers with baby strollers, seniors, clergy and small and large families joined the three hour service storming the triumphant church in Heaven.
Many Blessings During 40 Days As We Approach Final Week
The 40 Days prayer campaign got underway on Ash Wednesday. Here in Albuquerque we had approx. 100 prayer volunteers the first day. We have had a steady stream of prayer volunteers in front of Planned Parenthood and intercessors at the Holy Innocents Chapel.
During the second week of Lent two separate couples approached Phil Leahy, our highly esteemed and beloved pro-life missionary, who was ministering in front of Planned Parenthood. They told him they were returning to Planned Parenthood to get their money back and they were not going through with an abortion. Praise the Lord!
Thank You For Being Here
Project Defending Life kicked off “The Face of Abortion” public witness campaign on February 20th led by Fr. Stephen Imbarrato. That day fifteen pro-lifers held large abortion graphic images at the Richardson pavilion of UNM Hospital. Handouts were distributed explaining our pro-life position on embryonic stem cell tissue research, abortion, and our opposition to the Governor’s initiatives against his Catholic faith.

Babies Saved and Tears Shed During 40 Days for Life
The 40 Days For Life prayer crusade kicked off in Albuquerque and throughout 59 metro areas around the states on Ash Wednesday. Pro-life Lecture at UNM
Members of the University of New Mexico School Of Law’s St. Thomas More and Virgin of Guadalupe Society hosted a lecture on “Rejecting the Culture of Death” at the University of New Mexico’s Student Union Building on January 3oth this year. Fr. Stephen Imbarrato gave a talk and answered questions about his journey from indifference to fighting abortion and promoting the culture of life as a Catholic priest. Several young people in attendance asked sincere questions about unborn life and the culture of abortion that permeates our society. Thanks to James Dory-Garduno, student at the university’s law school, for promoting the pro-life message at UNM.
PDL Gabriel Project helps mother and baby
In July of last year, Annmarie was pregnant with two very young children at home. She found herself at Planned Parenthood scheduled to have an abortion. Instead, she turned to PDL prayer warrior Philip Leahy outside the abortion mill for help. Philip turned Annmarie over to the Gabriel Project for help and support. Pictured here is Annmarie with newborn Julia.
Thousands attend Sanctity of Life Event for Prayer and Public Witness
The Sanctity of Life Awareness and Unity Day co-sponsored by the Catholic Bishops of New Mexico and Project Defending Life was a resounding success.
