Gabriel Project's “Mommy Classes”

Tue May 12 '09 10:16 am

On February 17, 2009, the Gabriel Project started having “Mommy Classes.”

These are weekly classes for our moms that cover a variety of subjects, from pregnancy to parenting; from child birth to abstinence. In addition to the lesson, each class begins with supper for the moms and their kids; and ends with short time of prayer and devotion.

The class size has grown from 3-4 moms a week to a solid 10 moms each Wednesday night. One goal of the class is that the moms will gain support from each other, so there is plenty of time for socializing and sharing.

The curriculum is loosely based on the “Earn to Learn” program, which is a program that allows the moms to earn “mommy bucks” by coming to class, bringing a notebook and last week’s homework. The bucks can be traded in for gas cards, phone cards, diapers and other necessities. It is hoped that education and peer support will enrich the lives of these moms and their children.
