The eve of Mother’s Day 2008

Tue May 13 '08 11:26 am After just arriving home a week earlier from New York and visiting Monsignor Reilly in Brooklyn, I was eager to put into place his “way” of saving souls through prayer and peaceful witness outside the abortion mill. Phil Leahy and I arrived at 7:30 AM, placed the non-threatening signs around the periphery of the mill, and took our separate places to pray and witness, (and council if called upon). Out of the blue Rebecca appeared and took her place upon her knees to pray.
It was a busy morning at Planned Parenthood, girls being escorted in by their boyfriends, husbands, mothers, and one girl escorted by both parents. Mikala had her mom and two young men with her. They had been in the mill for about 40 minutes when they came out and one of the young men walked directly toward me and said he wanted one of those things, pointing to my rosary, Mikala, her mom and the other young man followed.I said, okay what color do you want I proceeded to pull all the rosaries out of my bag so he could pick one. As he was deciding which rosary he wanted I asked Mikala if she wanted one, and her response was “I am keeping my baby” and she had this huge grin on her face.

With tears in my eyes and goose bumps all over, I gave her a big hug and told her Happy Mother’s day. We stood smiling and laughing over which rosaries they should choose. After, giving Mikala my number and e-mail address, should she need help, they went on their way. Even though I had witnessed “saves” before, I feel and believe that Mikala’s save was a point our Lord was making to me personally. That is, the time spent with Monsignor Reilly, learning and understanding his “way” of saving souls outside the abortion mills, is to be taken seriously here in New Mexico. Our Lord got my attention.

A short while later, I was on my knees praying, and a man walked out of the mill, looked directly at me and nodded. I returned his nod. A few minutes later a girl walked out and followed him, I continued to pray, without raising from my knees. A few minutes passed and I felt someone approaching me, I looked up and saw this man and woman coming toward me. They wanted to look at the in-utero poster that was behind me. They had the newly acquired ultrasound picture showing their baby being 9 weeks old. I congratulated them, gave them a picture book of the baby in-utero, explaining weekly progress. They went on their way, after the new mom told me this would be her first Mother’s day.

Monsignor Reilly encourages everyone to create an atmosphere of peace and prayer outside the abortion mill. Every girl that had an abortion today is 50% likely to have a repeat abortion. If and when that time comes, we hope and pray that they will remember our peaceful and prayerful non-threatening witness to life.
