Catholic Pro-Life Ministries in New Mexico

Quick Tour of the PDL intranet

Here is some basic information that will be helpful to those who volunteer for our internet communications ministry.

Your intranet account

When you start volunteering for the PDL internet ministry, we will give you special log-in credentials that will let you access the password-protected parts of the PDL Web site. We refer to these protected parts of the Web site as the PDL intranet.

When we create your account, we will send you an email message with the subject Activate your PDL Account. This email will have a link you can use to activate your new account. You will be prompted to choose a password for your account.

Keeping in mind that many pro-abort lunatics would love nothing more than to hack our site, please protect your log-in credentials carefully. Please choose a password that is hard for other people to guess and do not share your account info with anyone else.

Logging in

After you activate your account, you will be logged in. On return visits, you can log in by looking for the “Log In” link under the picture of Our Lady.

If you are already logged in, you will see a “Welcome” message in place of the “Log in” link.

Forgetting your password

Everyone is required to forget their password at least two times. Everyone must then write to Michael asking him for help. Michael then sends them a link to this page.

To re-activate your account, click the “Reset Password” link on the log-in page.

This will take you to a page where you can enter the email address that we originally used to create your account. The site will then send you an email message with a link you can use to re-activate your account and create a new password to forget.

Logging out

If you are logging into the PDL site from a public computer, for example at a library, you must remember to log out when you are done with the computer. In the Welcome message under the picture of Our Lady is a message that says “Not you? Click here”. Just click the words “Click here” to log yourself out.

If you are working from a private, secure computer, there is no need to log out. In fact, when you log in from a private, secure computer, you can check the Keep me logged in checkbox so you do not have to log in manually every time you come to the Web site.

Editing pages

When you are logged into the Web site, you will see links under the picture of Our Lady for “Edit Page” and “New Page”. Those are special links that take you to the editing pages in the intranet.

You can edit any page in the site simply by visiting the page you want and clicking the “Edit” link under the picture of Our Lady.

Editing info on a list page

Many pages in the site are simple content pages that you can edit. For example, you can directly edit the Contact Us page just by clicking the “Edit Page” link.

Other pages, however, are actually lists that you do not edit directly. For example, the main Ministries page is actually a list of individual ministry pages. You cannot edit the list page itself, but you can edit any of the individual ministry pages that are listed there.

To edit a ministry page, go to the Ministries list page and then click the title for one of the ministries. That will take you to an individual ministry page. Then you can click the “Edit Page” link. Any change you make to the ministry page will also be reflected on the Ministries List page.

To add a new ministry to the list, go to the Ministries list page and then click the “New Page” link. This will let you create a new Ministry page. When you save it, your new page will automatically get listed on the list page.

You can do the same thing to edit and create items on other list pages, like the News page and the Events page.

Formatting text on your pages

You can use special text codes called Textile to format the text on your pages. Textile lets you create headlines, bold and italic text, hypertext links, and more. You can learn how to use Textile by reading the following help page:

http://www.defendinglife.org/locked/editor/pages/formatting_help.html

The Formatting Help page is also accessible from the intranet menu.

Adding images to your pages

You can (and should) add a picture to any page that you create. Every editor page includes a picture upload control that you can use to select a picture on your hard drive and upload it to the Web site.

You can select a picture of almost any size and in almost any format. The Web site will automatically convert the image to the size and format needed for the page.

Accessing the Intranet

There are other tools that you can access in the intranet, such as the People Database, Mail Monster (our email campaign tool), database reports, and more.

After you have logged in, you will see a “Welcome” message under the picture of Our Lady. That message includes a link to the intranet. You can also access the intranet any time at this URL:

http://www.defendinglife.org/locked/

The intranet includes a special navigation menu that you can use to access all the different tools in the intranet.

You can bookmark the URL of the intranet or any of the intranet tools so you can access it easily.
